How should a student software developer get in touch with other programmers?

Hello! My name is Paul and I'm a teenager taking online training courses for android application development. I am seeking to network within the larger field of people in software development. I don't, however, have the current ability to travel to conferences and meet-ups, so I would prefer tips on how to get in touch with people online. #computer-software #software #information-technology #social #networking #apps

Online is great, but nothing beats face-to-face interaction for sharing enthusiasms and I'm sure you're not the only one at your school that's into it. Perhaps your school already has a club for programming. If not, I bet you could start one yourself.

If you need to start one, you probably need a teacher to sponsor it, but I'm sure if you talk to your school's guidance counselor or principal or any of your science teachers they could point you in the right direction.

Paul, take a look around on Reddit.com. Search for "software developer groups" and you'll find others like you. THe above comment is suggesting websites for "open source programming" These are sites you can go to to ask technical questions or read other questions and answers. They exist not for networking, but to help you solve programming hurdles. I hope this helps! My son is an Android developer. I've texted him to find out the open source site he uses. Comment on this answer if you want me to send it to you.

I am sending this info again Paul, as I cannot see my edit. So my son uses Github.com. He's an Android developer. He is only 3 years out of college and loves his job. It's great that you're learning while in HS. I know not all high schools are on top of things regarding programming course.
