The best thing you can do, is find a cheap camera, even just a camera phone, and start making stories. Do you want people to learn about your everyday life? Talk about that. Do you feel passionate about a specific topic? Then make videos about that! Watch other youtubers and try to find out what you like. It's ok to try to copy some of their videos to get a feel for what you want to do.
After that I would try to make as many videos as you can. Don't worry about how many views you get to start out, just practice practice practice. The longer you make videos, the better you will get at it, and the more people will want to watch your videos.

Hi Jimmy,
Being a Youtube seems like an incredibly fun career. However, it does require a varied skill set and a mixture of software and some equipment. The first thing to determine is what sort of content you want to provide. Being good at creating content and actually enjoying it while having an angle or niche is probably the most important skill to have.
After you have that figured out, you will need to determine what sort of equipment and software you will use. A beginner can typically get away with just the cam on their PC or mobile device, although as you advance you may need a high quality PC, camera and microphone, with possibly a capture card for both audio and video.
You will also need to learn video editing skills, as well as photo editing/thumbnail creation and some marketing. A good place to start would be within your school to see if they have any courses in video editing, graphic design, etc. If not, you could also find out of a local community college has any non credit courses in what you are looking to learn. And of course, Google is always your friend as there is lots of free information out there if you have the time to search and learn.
Best of luck in your streaming career. I'll look for you online!
Thanks,
Dan
