Why do you think you’re well-suited for a position as an administrative assistant? For this job in particular?

Thank you comment icon Hi Brianna, this question is a great one but it might be a little too specific and doesn't mention which job it is that you're referring to. Maybe try rewording it and leaving it more open ended. For example, what makes someone well suited for an admin assistant? What are hiring managers looking for in an admin assistant? Best of luck in the job search! Gurpreet Lally, Admin

Bob’s Answer

First, you must understand the culture of the organization or department you join. What is the belief system? Are young people in your position respected, assisted, have opportunities for training and promotion, receive pay increases for excellent work. Are employees and management, while being competitive, respectful-honest-ethical.
Next, you must understand the role, focus, targets, budget and plans of the organization/department you join. How is success measured within this organization? After all, you will be judged based upon your contributions toward the success of your boss and the department overall.
Then, you must learn the details and excel in terms of the job you now have.
To be recognized as excellent you will be expected not only to react immediately to the situations demanding your attention-but over time, and this is critical, you must begin to successfully anticipate and begin to develop responses to critical needs of management/your organization before asked to do so. This is what a consummate professional does.
Of course, you must be able to be well organized, understand broad concepts while being able to deal with the details
required. Also, have the compute/software technical skills needed to be successful.Monica has the characteristics correctly defined.
Although you will be required to have leadership skills, in today's business climate, you will also need to be able to work competently as a team member.

Bob recommends the following next steps:

Through friends, family, teachers identify a very successful Administrative Assistant you can speak with. Create a list of questions you can ask them.
Search the internet for articles that include successful attributes for folks who are employed in this position.
Look for business magazines that cater to professionals in this career.
