The restaurant business is extremely tough. I own a chain of restaurants called "the meatball shop". Not only is it extremely hard work but it is tough to earn a profit. One day you're in, the next day you're out. In today's world, digital marketing is important in any business, along with pr and word of mouth. Location is also the most important thing in any retail economy. If after you finish school and you're still hell bent on opening restaurants, do research. Go to some really busy places and look at the menu and location. You don't have to reinvent the wheel but you you have to look at the people in the location and serve what they like.
