I can tell you from my experience of going to work everyday in a mechanic shop. The job has many good things about it. You have a skill that you can take with you, you can become specialized, become an entrepreneur and more. But from what I have observed one of the most satisfying parts of the job, is the customer base. If you get a chance to be in front of customers, and make a great impression on them that can go a long way to building a loyal customer base for what you do.
Once a customer realizes that you care about their safety and helping them to achieve their goals, then that customer is more likely to return because they trust you.
-All of this aside from doing diligent, diagnostic and complete work.

One perk is the detailed understanding and ability to repair the second most expensive investment you'll ever have in your life, second only to your home. Being able to either do the work yourself or, at the very least, being an educated customer for any work you can't/won't do yourself, will be a lifelong savings to you on everything related to automotive. This will remain true even if you leave the industry since the knowledge will stay with you.
