Is it a good idea to earn a bachelor's degree online while also attending cosmetology school?
I'm a senior in high school, and I graduate in two weeks. One month from graduation I start cosmetology school. I've been thinking about it lately, and I realized my life would be so empty if I had to choose between the two loves of my life (English and cosmetology). So, I've decided to be both a cosmetologist and an English teacher. I'd be in cosmetology school from 9-5, Monday-Friday every week for the next 14 months. I've already decided I want to get my bachelor's degree through an online program... The problem is I don't when to start that. Would it be a bad idea to do both at the same time? Should I just wait until after beauty school to start on my bachelor's degree? #teaching #cosmetology

Emily, I would urge you to get your bachelor's first, or at least simultaneously. Having a bachelor's degree will give you much more flexibility and allow you to do all kinds of things, whereas the cosmetology degree will limit your choices to jobs within cosmetology. With a B.A. (whether you major in English or anything else), you can work in business, marketing, finance, education, government, etc. You will open doors for yourself that might otherwise be closed.
That being said, if you are passionate about cosmetology and are sure you want to devote your life to it, I say go for it. But if you are unsure, I would take undergraduate courses and work toward a B.A. just to keep those options open.
Hope that helps!
