What job options are there for a computer scientist?
I plan to major in computer science, and am interested in what type of careers people get when a degree in computer science. #computer-science #computer-software

The Computer Science domain is massive! In my opinion there is something for everyone, some examples with potential skills/interests listed:
- Web and front end design and development - design, graphics, arts, human<->computer interaction
- Mobile app development - design, graphics, human<->computer interaction
- Big data - analytics, data science
- Security - forensics, cryptology, criminal justice
- Video game design and development - story telling, design, graphics, physics, art
- Software Engineering - engineering, leveraging building blocks, solving problems
- Project management - people interaction, schedule, process
- Sales and pre-sales engineering - sales, customer interaction, solution development, trusted advisor, forecasting
- IT - operating computing systems at organizations - building redundancies, maintaining and developing systems

Computer scientists work on research, there are so many areas of research available and your area of research will depend on your interest. Some of the areas are opensource software, machine learning, etc. You can just google various areas and that will give you a better idea of it.

As a Computer Science major at University, it's really important to apply for Summer Internships, Research Positions, Co-Ops, and Rotational Technology Programs. With hands on experience in the industry, you will build your experience and resume. Often times, Companies will recruit and build their pipeline, from the Internship and Rotational Technology Program pool. It's really important to always be a top-performer at your organization and build your network, leveraging tools like LinkedIn.
