Hi there! I would recommend checking into the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO). I included the main website below and one for the San Francisco Bay Area, which is close by you. They have a Facebook page, online activities and education, as well as a newsletter that you can sign up for. You may be able to seek a local mentor through their social media. Just so you know, they posted that there are over 153,000 women-owned businesses in the Bay Area alone! Best of luck, Dr. B

Your local Better Business Bureau would be a great place to start for opportunities in your area. They could guide you to business that mesh with your interests and help you form connections in the business community.

Hi Sophie,
Great question! When considering entrepreneurship one of the first questions you can ask yourself is what are you passionate and interested in? This can help guide you towards what sort of opportunities you can pursue. For example, if you are interested in baking you may want to become an entrepreneur and open up your own bakery! Knowing what sort of business you would like to pursue will then lead you towards finding bakeries owned by women!
Also, being an entrepreneur can lead you down so many different paths, and just because somebody has never pursued the same entrepreneurial idea you have, doesn't mean it isn't something you should pursue if that is what you are passionate about!
Hope this helps!

Dear Sophie,
Empowerment Initiatives for Aspiring Young Women Entrepreneurs
A myriad of mentorship initiatives exist that are specifically tailored to foster the growth of young women entrepreneurs. These initiatives offer a platform to glean knowledge from accomplished women business leaders and gain a deep understanding of the entrepreneurial landscape. Here are some prominent mentorship initiatives:
1. Girls Who Code
Girls Who Code is a non-profit entity striving to bridge the gender disparity in the tech sector. They offer a range of programs, including a 7-week Summer Immersion Program, for young women aged 13-17 to acquire coding and entrepreneurship skills. The program includes mentorship from women tech leaders and provides a platform to cultivate a startup idea.
2. The Girls’ Network
The Girls’ Network is a charity based in the UK that offers mentorship to young women from economically disadvantaged communities. The initiative connects girls aged 14-19 with female professionals who serve as mentors and provide guidance on career progression, entrepreneurship, and personal development.
3. DreamWakers
DreamWakers is a non-profit entity that links professionals from diverse industries with high school students from under-resourced backgrounds through virtual mentorship. The initiative includes video conversations with accomplished women entrepreneurs who share their journey, provide guidance, and respond to queries about entrepreneurship.
4. SheEO
SheEO is a global network of women radically reshaping the way we finance, support, and celebrate female entrepreneurs. They offer funding, mentorship, and resources to women-led ventures that have a positive social impact. SheEO provides various programs and events for young women entrepreneurs to learn from successful business owners.
5. Women’s Business Centers (WBCs)
Women’s Business Centers (WBCs) consist of over 100 educational hubs across the United States, enabling women to establish and expand successful businesses. WBCs provide training, counseling, mentorship, and access to capital for women entrepreneurs at different stages of their business journey. Some WBCs have specific programs targeting young women entrepreneurs.
6. Young Enterprise
Young Enterprise is a charity based in the UK that provides mentorship programs for young individuals aged 15-19 interested in entrepreneurship. The organization runs various programs, including Company Programme and Start-Up Programme, where students collaborate to establish and manage their own businesses under the guidance of business volunteers serving as mentors. While not exclusively for young women, these programs welcome participants of all genders.
These represent just a handful of the numerous mentorship initiatives available globally for young women entrepreneurs. By engaging in these programs, budding female entrepreneurs can glean knowledge from successful business owners, broaden their networks, and acquire essential skills for entrepreneurial success.
May God bless you!

I'd check women's colleges that have a business major or degree. Some will also have Entrepreneurship Centers or mentoring programs in place.
I graduated with an MBA from Simmons College in Boston; the program was women only. Fantastic support, lots of growth and learning.
Good luck!

Hi Sophie,
Great question! I would look at Women who Code: https://www.womenwhocode.com/
Also, if there are any companies you are interested in or know the field of industry you want to study, check those company websites. Many times they offer internship or mentorship programs to youth, students, and young adults starting in their careers.
