Kevin’s Answer
Hey Pooja,
I would definitely recommend just attending their events in the first couple weeks of school. Here you will be able to learn more about exactly what they do, what to expect for the quarter and ultimately socializing with all their current members.
You never know if you don't try and it's very important to be proactive about things you are curious about!
Best,

I agree that you should go into the recruitment process with an open mind. If you like the girls in one of the sororities, go for it. If you feel that you would mesh better outside of the Greek system, that is just fine as well.

Sororities of any sort are all about sisterhood and service. It is like a secret society of women who are linked due to common interests. In many sororities you are pledging to a lifelong commitment. It comes along with an agreement of loyalty and support of the sorority itself and its members. Just about all sororities have some form of volunteer component to it. In these various service areas, the sorority focuses on giving back or benefiting the community around them or a under-advantaged area that has been previously identified.
I would definitely do a Google search and see what is out there based upon your interests and your geographical area. Some sororities are specific to particular schools, where others are not or may not be education based at all. For students, there are even sorority opportunities beyond your undergraduate years with alumni membership. Today, more sororities or Greek letter organizations are also becoming increasingly multicultural.
Sigma Chi Psi Sorority Inc. is "The First Collegiate Sorority For ALL Online Accredited, Colleges, Universities, and Global Campuses. Sigma Chi Psi is all about inclusivity and aims to provide a sisterhood for women pursuing a degree online."
"The sorority caters to online students and has no affiliation with D9."
Their goal is to "bridge the social gap through events and philanthropy."
It was founded in 2020 by Hildra AnnaJean and Stephanie Robinson-Scott. It's founders realized that "there are significant gaps that exclude most students that pursue higher education in a non-traditional manner, who desire to join a sorority."
"Though they primarily focus on online university students, they also extend membership to community, technical, and trade school students."
"They are NOT an ONLINE sorority. They operate virtually and aim to connect in person locally and nationally."

Hae Ji Esther’s Answer
I joined the Asian interest sorority during college. I wasn't a typical sorority girl and wasn't interested in joining at first. However, I joined the sorority, because of the people who were part of it. They were someone I could see myself becoming close friends and mentors who I could learn from. They had similar values and goals as I did about life. I also really valued the philanthropy aspect of my sorority. I would advise you to ask yourself following questions: 1) Can you imagine yourself being part of that sorority group and be close friends with the girls who are part of it? 2) Why do you want to join sorority and why that particular one? 3) What do you want to accomplish from joining this sorority? It is critical for you to get to know the girls who are already part of the group and those who are rushing with you, because you will probably spend a lot of time together and possibly become your maid of honor or bridesmaids in the future. Good luck!
