Would you recommend a career in Anesthesiology?
I’m considering going into medicine, but I don’t know what specialty is right for me. I would like a career where I can tackle important problems and make people’s lives better. What do you guys think? Would this be the right specialty? I’m trying to figure out which one is right for me. #medicine #healthcare #career-choice #career #science

I am a gynecologist and therefore work with anesthesiologists in surgery. One interesting thing about the field is that the work seems either mundane with routine cases or very stressful with the critically ill patients. In that regard, it may be either exciting or too stressful depending on your personality type. Just something to consider.

Early in the educational process, keep an open mind and learn as much as possible. As you get deeper into your studies, you will discover your passion. During years 3 and 4 of med school you will have an opportunity to train with a variety of specialities. Toward the end the 4th year, you will go through a competitive matching process where you are matched based on your preferences and qualifications.

Yes, anesthesia is an interesting field. You can work at a hospital and have critically ill patients, or concentrate on more elective procedures at a surgery center.
