How do engineers help the world in a way only they can?

Engineering seems to be a very big field, so I guess this question could be answered in different ways depending on the type of engineer. I think I would generally like to know how you, given your field in engineering, think about what changes people like you make in our world.
Also I would like to share the answers with the STEM club at my high school when we have our career spotlight time. #engineering #engineer

Josh’s Answer

Engineers design and build products and processes that are used in every facet of most people's lives. Bridges, cars, phones, spaceships...and pretty much any manufactured product you might buy. They also design and build computer systems that are used to solve problems in medicine and a host of other important areas.

Beyond designing and building products and processes, engineers are generally logical and methodical thinkers. They can contribute to society by, for example, working within their towns (or at the state or national level in some cases) to help other citizens approach problems logically and to give input into areas where science and engineering backgrounds are useful: for example, many towns have people who deal with water, water conservation and quality. Having citizens who can participate in these areas makes governments more accountable and can lead to better results for all.

Simon’s Answer

Engineers make life better through innovation and by improving on existing technologies. Engineers bring ideas to reality and by making products work better, and many times less expensive. Engineers bring their talents to everyone, whether they live in a industrial, agricultural or even an evolving country by being able to work on problems related to each particular area. Engineering is very rewarding for yourself and others. Try and top that!! Make a difference, be an engineer. I hope this helps. Good luck

Peter’s Answer

Its been said that an Engineer can solve a problem for one-tenth the cost and trouble that an intelligent lay person likely could. Engineers receive special training to view a problem from many angles and to apply practical, proven, and cost-efficient approaches to solve said problem. It is this talent that makes our Profession so indispensable.

I think engineers answer the question of "how" In the world. Other jobs come up with the questions, but engineers create the solutions.
