Austin, Salaries range based on where you live, level of experience, and relevant credentials. I recommend you use https://www.payscale.com/my/survey/choose or https://www.glassdoor.com/Salaries/horticulturist-salary-SRCH_KO0,14.htm to gather salary information. It is also wise to look at the future of the industry and related positions.

David’s Answer
The average pay for a Horticulturist is $68,927 a year and $33 an hour in the United States. The average salary range for a Horticulturist is between $49,365 and $85,056. On average, a Bachelor's Degree is the highest level of education for a Horticulturist. It's a hard profession. You have to have a lot of training. I always recommend lots of internships, especially at other public gardens, to really find the way in that you're really comfortable with. Some horticulture is very focused on science of plant conservation. Good luck!!

There are a few different jobs that you could have within the horticulture field. If you wanted to be a soil or plant scientist, the average salary in the US ranges from $60,000-$100,000. However, if you wanted to be a post-secondary agricultural science professor, the average salary is around $80,000.
Look into the different job paths and find what sounds best for you, then do some research on the average salary for that job.

You could also get Bachelor degrees in plant science, soil science, or other related fields. These programs take four years to complete and will cover courses in botany, chemistry, and soil science.
You could get a job or an internship at a local nursery or for your local extension office
