A variety of organizations hire social workers: public welfare agencies, private social service agencies, schools, hospitals, clinics, and recreation and rehabilitation centers. Many work with juvenile courts. A small number are employed as teachers or researchers.

Social work can take you many places! I’ll give the example of my own experience: I started with a BA in psychology, followed by an MSW focusing on mental health and serving older adults. I gained exposure to working in a therapy setting, working with children, women, and eventually older adults. I had the opportunity to work in a hospital setting as a medical social work and conducting research aimed at combating social isolation. I eventually found passion for program development and now focus on bringing people together around a cause. I build volunteer programs, internships and corporate partnerships that support nonprofits. It feels great to be able to engage people in serving others and supporting their community. My current role combines human services, fundraising and friend-raising - and I am grateful to have social work as my foundation.
