Carol’s Answer

I remember this decision. Its complicated. If you know what area of law you think you are most interested in, then you can look at laws schools known for that expertise. For instance, I know I wanted to be a business attorney and not a litigator. So I chose Santa Clara Law School in Santa Clara California because they were well known for business law and placed many of their students in companies in the Silicon Valley. I knew I wanted to live in California so I chose this law school in California. That is important too.

I received my undergraduate degree at the university of new haven. I went to law school at John Marshall law school in Chicago. I walked through all the law schools in Chicago and was accepted at all of them but JMLS made me feel as if they cared so I went there

Paul V.’s Answer

I earned my Juris Doctor degree from Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport, Florida. Prior to that I had earned a Master's degree in Linguistics and a Bachelor's degree in Education from the University of South Florida in Tampa and worked for a number of years. Stetson Law is one of the most highly rated Trial Advocacy schools in the nation, with Trial Teams that consistently beat Harvard and Yale law student teams in National competitions. In addition to its Juris Doctor program, Stetson Law offers an LLM degree for practicing lawyers and judges to specialize in International Business Transactions. There are international programs: I studied International Dispute Resolution in Granada, Spain one summer. Stetson Law also has Centers of Excellence in areas such as Elder Law and Trial Advocacy.

My wife and I chose Stetson because it's convenient, it's beautiful, it's near St. Petersburg Beach and the Gulf of Mexico, and the historic campus buildings were designed to look like a Spanish village with fountains and gardens; it's very pretty. I am very happy I made the choice I did; it was expensive; I'm still paying for it, but law school at Stetson Law was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences I've had in my life.

There are a number of law schools in Florida, both private, like Stetson Law, and public, like the University of Florida or Florida State University. The tuition for public law schools is cheaper for residents of the state, but there are many, many applicants, making it more difficult to get in. Not that Stetson Law was easy to get into. The objective is graduating; that's what the priority should be. Good luck to you.

I went to law school at the University of Georgia. I was a Georgia resident and at that time intended to stay in Georgia which factored into my decision. Also, since it is a state school it was less expensive than private or out of state schools. I agree with the previous comments. If you have a particular area of law that you are interested in it would be beneficial to do some research and find out which schools are known to have expertise in that area. It is also important to consider the cost at the various schools. Another factor to consider is where you want to live. If you want to remain in Texas, then you might want to concentrate on the law schools that are located in Texas. Here is a site that has a lot of good, comparative information about law schools: http://law-schools.startclass.com/. The websites of the various schools would also have a lot of good information.
