What field of engineering leads to the greatest number of start-ups?

Hi Jules Benjamin G. Thanks so much for your question. I see that you posted this question a little while ago so I hope my answer to you (or others who may read this response) is still helpful.
Generally speaking, startups are fueled by innovative ideas. As fields of engineering go, computer engineering, software engineering or computer programming are some of the fields that are best suited for startups, in my opinion. I say this because creators who have this skill can quickly adapt to changes either in business rules or market demand. My opinion also assumes that by "startup" you mean something technically based (vs something like a food establishment or maybe personal pet care) though there aren't many business areas that I can think of that don't rely on technology to grow...and I think this is particularly true for startups. My understanding is that in today's market, many millions of startups/small businesses use platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to grow. Those platforms are unequivocally, technically based and employ many, many engineers.
