Michael’s Answer

You can absolutely have a job while in college but as Ryan mentioned above, its all about the balance. Alot of students will seek out a job on campus which helps out. This would be something like working the student service desk or library desk. This lets you handle homework during downtime, be social with your peers, and still make some spending money. As you progress throughout the years and find your cadence you will find the hours that fit best for you.

Ryan’s Answer

It's all about finding a balance that works for you. Some people can do it all (work, school, social) and be successful in each area while some people prefer to put all of their focus on the school work. It also helps to let yourself get settled in and used to responsibilities at hand. My first semester, I barely managed to handle my school work. However, as I got more and more used to the work load, I eventually was able to handle school and a 20 hour/week job. I'd recommend starting school without one, then pursuing it once you feel like it is something you can handle. Definitely not impossible though.

Erika’s Answer

It's not hard at all to get a job while you are in college. Some people go the typical route of fast food or retail, however I would encourage to align your job search to your field of study or something you are passionate about. Good luck!

Hi Yula,
Erica and Ryan have bought very valid points: your passion, work-life balance, aligning it to your field, etc.
My suggestion is, first semester is crucial so focus on your studies since transitioning is not easy. Aim to get high GPA, if not at least, in 3.0 min.
On your second semester, you will be a bit adjusted. Then , I highly suggest you to apply for fws FEDERAL WORK STUDY, either with Career Services department or with Financial Aid office.
This is a great program of most schools that permits active students to work between 15-20 hours per week at min wage rate. I usually process screening and processing of the students. So long as you completedo min 6 credts, earned 2.5, but preferably, 3.0 GPA, and eligible for federal aid, they can assist you to work on site (in college ) or OFF-SITE (non-profit partner organization)
