I know several judges. They complain about boredom that leads to drowziness. One says he pinches himself in the thigh to stay awake. Why? It is his job to call the case, make sure the accused is represented, and keep any trials within the legal guidelines. Mostly, he listens and speaks when needed. Judges also write decisions.

After high school, you would generally attend four years of college, then three years of law school, although the requirements for becoming a judge vary from state to state. I discovered in law school that your college area of study/major was not all that important, so pick something that will keep you interested and focused, as you will need decent grades to get into law school. As far as becoming a judge, that can happen at any point in your career, although most judges I know practiced law for several years before they were selected/appointed as judges. The pay for judges can vary significantly, depending upon the level of the court, the state, and how much experience the individual has. The process varies, depending on the type of judge, what level of government, and where you are. Some judges are elected by the general population. Some are appointed by the governor or the President of the U.S.A. Pay will also vary depending on all the above. Almost always, at minimum, you will need a law degree.
