Does a students citizenship status influence colleges acceptance decision?

My dream is to get in a top tier college however I am concerned that they wont accept me because I am a temporary resident through the Dream Act. I wanted to see if they would take that into consideration and prefer not to waste their time and effort on me.

Doris, thanks for submitting this question. Considering your current circumstances, it's a very good question to consider. If a college admissions office can evaluate your application for enrollment and determines you're a great candidate, then they'll pursue you and help find a way to make it happen. I can imagine how easy it might be to feel anxious and/or uncertain about what could happen after you submit your application, not knowing if you'll be accepted into a top-tier school. Yes, they'll take your temporary residence into consideration. However, top-tier schools will take everything into consideration because they want students who have demonstrated a strong record of academic and personal growth and a great potential for further success in a college setting. If you look at what you can control (like the things I just mentioned) and show every school that you've got what it takes to succeed at the next level of education, it will be in your favor.

Best of luck!
