What should I expect as a first year nursing student?
I have just been accepted into the nursing program and I am freaking out!!! I don't know what to expect. I really like to know some tips or pieces of advice before I go head first into something. #doctor #professor #nurse #science #college #nursing

First year nursing is normally just a regular classroom experience. Studying, Homework, Tests, that kind of thing. Good luck!

Classes. You should just focus on developing good study habits and learning. I always found that having a group of "major" friends who you can study with, work on homework together, and ask questions tends to help. As for good study habits, what I found helped is:
1. Do the require readings before lecture and review the lecture material before class. Lecture is meant for the professor to very quickly cover the material and answer any questions you were confused about and need some clarification when you were reviewing the material before class.
2. Review the lecture material and your notes within 1-2 hours after class. Many times during class, most people are focused on taking notes and do not have time to comprehend the material and figure out what they do and don't understand to be able to ask questions or seek help. By reviewing the material you can help to boost understanding and comprehension, while also reducing the amount of time you will need to study when midterms/finals come around.
3. GO TO OFFICE HOURS. This is where you can ask questions around the lecture material you did not understand or homework. If you have been doing steps 1 and 2, you should have a few questions you need answering.
4. Work on the homework ASAP. Do not leave the homework till the last minute.
5. Set aside time to review your lecture material weekly (1 to 2 times). This is to help comprehension and recall.
