How do I go about finding internships in my college years pertaining to psychology?

I am very interested in psychology and the human brain and how we act and behave. I would like to start working with psychologists during my college years to get a feel of what it will be like for me. #psychology #clinical-psychology #psychologist

Hi Lily,
I am a senior majoring in Psychology at Rutgers University and I have also struggled with this as well. It's important to see if your school has any opportunities for students to gain volunteer or research experience. My school particularly has many applications for being a research assistant or internships for psychology. Reach out to your psychology professors and see how they can help! It's important to expand your network and see how others may be able to help.

Hello Lily,

This is great that you are thinking about getting an internship and gaining more exposure to the Psychology field. I think it is so important getting hand-on experience during your college career because you will be able to learn more and see what really interests you. Thus, you can tailor the rest of your college career accordingly! I have a Bachelors in Psychology and conducted research for a year in the field of Sleep & Chronobiology, so I know exactly what you are going through!

There are many different paths you can take to searching/applying for internships:
-Reach out to your current professors to see if they are hiring any students in their research labs
-Reach out and maintain networks with professors, and they might refer you to other psychologists
-Contact the Psychology Department and see if they know of any opportunities
-Contact your Career Development Center at your school to see what opportunities they might have
-Contact your college counselor
-Contact other Psychology focused Universities and see if there are any internships available
-Update your LinkedIn account
-Create and search on job sites to look for internships

My best advise is being active and reaching out to people directly. Many times jobs/internships are attained via networking. As long as you remain diligent and continue your hard work, you will be able to get a great experience in Psychology! Good luck!
