Hi Kelly,

It's good to know that you have an inclination towards engineering and technology. When you are in your teens, you really want to explore the options and know more about the technology. These days you have a lot of knowledge shared on the internet on various websites, blogs, articles. Read as much as possible about what you love and would want to know more about. This would help you decide and realize what type of engineering you are interested in.

Check the link below the various areas of engineering. Regarding technology, everything scientists and engineers come up with go under the technology title. In other words, technology is vast subject and you have to be way more specific to enable me to help you out.

Umesh’s Answer

Software is mainly programming, while computer engineering is more designing computers.
Electrical, mechanical and civil engineering are all examples of hardware design, development and testing.
They are hands on and requires you to design something that is physical.
An example is the main printed circuit board assembly in your computer.
An electrical engineer will be someone who would do this.
A mechanical engineer can design some part of a car or truck.
Examples are an engine or transmission.
A civil engineer will design buildings, bridges, railroad tracks, tunnels and dams.
