I would add to Nancy's question by suggesting that you should have a continued curiosity about nature and the world in general. And always want to learn new things. A desire for self-improvement is a necessity.

Nancy’s Answer
Start by taking science and math in high school, 4 years of each. In college take a variety of science courses plus statistics and at least a semester of calculus. Then you can decide which branch of science you enjoy the most to major in. Most science jobs other than laboratory assistant will require at least a master's degree for researching or administering a laboratory . The independent research credential is a doctor of philosophy degree. There are many degrees that allow work in science-related fields with fewer years of education, such as a bachelor's in engineering or various associate's degrees in technology.

Rupam’s Answer
Apart from what has been shared already, inculcate scientific temperament and a general curiosity about the world around you. A strong background in Mathematics becomes necessary as you dig deeper into most of the science subjects. Most schools and colleges in India offer a breadth of science subjects to major in. Interest in studying General science has been on the wane in India off late - we need the best and the brightest minds in the field to bring the benefits of science to the larger population. Good luck!
