Hi Maria,
I am not sure of the nature of your question. My interpretation is that you are asking about working on a graphic design project and you are wondering if and when you need other marketing team members to support you. I would say that if you are doing any project, you should make sure to consider more than just your own opinion on something. More brains are better than one. You are never going to be representative of entire audience that you are trying to reach. It is important for you to get as many voices engaged in your design of something as you can. Some people will bring technical expertise. In Graphic Design, they will talk to you about good images, good use of color, or good use of space. For other things, they made be able to talk with you about good communication or legal ramifications. I am an Instructional Design. One of the skills that I have to apply in my job is graphic design. And I do not know everything about that field. I look to fellow designers with graphic design skills to give me that feedback. I am good at picturing how a course should look and what should be included. I am not necessarily good at choosing fonts, pictures, or colors. I am trying to learn and I use my peers to get that knowledge.
All of this was the long answer for your question. Here is the short answer - insights from other knowledgeable people is vital to success in most business endeavors like a campaign.

I ditto the above.
In summary: the Client may not always be right, though they are lways the Client: the person who pays for the project so you get paid. #1 goal on every project in any field MAKE THE CLIENT HAPPY, expecially if the client is not she what is wanted EDUCATE THEM with examples of the kind of information to be gained through marketing, surveys, focus groups,e tc. to learn "What Does the CLient Want that they do not have now?"
Being a solution provider ALWAYS STARTS with learning what the problem or missing piece of information is. Ask open ended questions, watch body language and take notes! Doesn;t mater if you are a physician, accountant, peace officer, parent, teacher, or marketing guru.
