Anwesha’s Answer

Hi Ashwini,

Depends on which IITs you are targeting. While IITs and BITS are both top institutes in India for BTech education, if you have to make a choice, go for the top IITs/BITS. By top IITs, I mean IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur. BITS, by virtue of wuality education that they provide, may rank higher than some of the newer IITs. Also, you can consider IISc for a BTech in Computer Science, which is at the same level of excellence as IITs, if not more.

Shashank’s Answer

Hello Ashwini,

As Anwesha said if you get an opportunity in the top IITs across the country you should definitely opt for it as a First preference.
The IIT will provide you a completely different learning experience, and will also give you lots of options to explore further after completing your BTech.
BITS Pilani on the other hand should be your Second preference. BITS is equally reputed as any IIT institute, and it will also give you an amazing experience and exposure, but I have personally felt BITS to be popular as a "Distance Education" platform rather than the regular one.

So put in your best efforts and I wish you Good Luck further.

Regards,

Arun’s Answer

Hi Ashwini,

IITs & BITS are the premier institutes in our country. They have been the go to institutes for budding engineers for quite some time with IITs having a better edge over BITS. However, BITS is no way lesser when compared with IITs.
At the end of the day the graduating engineers want the best offers from top global companies and this is where the IITs provide better w.r.t. opportunities as well as compensation packages. BITS also has more or else same kind of environment where graduating engineers bag excellent offers with similar organization but the compensation however might relatively vary.

On the contrary the individual contribution (efforts) and passion play a deciding factor on the performance of a graduating student at either of the institutes and the institutes on the whole are a platform for learning and showcasing your skills (as and when you learn).

I hope you find this information useful and make the appropriate choice when your time arrives :)

Thanks & Regards,
Arun S

Gaurav’s Answer

Hi Ashwini,

No doubt, IITs and BITS Pilani are the best engineering colleges in India. Older IITs offer more learning opportunities and exposure compared to the new one's. So when choosing between a particular IIT and BITS Computer science course, i would suggest to consider this factor as well.

If you are getting computer science branch in top 6-7 IITs (older one's) then go for it else choose BITS Pilani, Pilani campus.

Hope it help!!

Cheers!!

Satyajeet’s Answer

IIT aka Indian Institute of Technology is one of the premier institutes of India. Currently there are 23 IITs overall, however as per National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF, Ministry of Human Resource Development Government of India) not all IITs are equally ranked.
Please refer (https://www.nirfindia.org/2020/Ranking2020.html) for latest rankings.

Whenever people have questions as you have posed here college versus branch, there is not a single objective answer to this. Response varies from people to people some prefer college over branch on other hand some give preference to branch.
Your Alma Mater matters a lot in your future course of actions in your career, IITs have strong Alumni Network, grads passed out from these premier institutes have made significant contributions to Technology, Engineering, Leadership and being part of such a Network helps an individual in every phase of his life.

CS from atleast top-7 IITs is an achievement and for that one need to be a top ranker in JEE competitive exam. Getting a degree from these institutes provided you maintain your GPA score can place you to best Technology companies with competitive compensation.

BITS is also among better institutes in the country, much better than 99% of engineering colleges in India in terms of pedagogy, placements, infra, alumni network etc. They are like second to none.

However given a chance IIT is an experience, a way of life, if you make a seat there it will remain for your lifetime and not just for 4 years of your path to getting engineering degree.
