Biomedical vs Mathematics Major for acceptance into Med School or Veterinary Med School?

I am pursing and educational path to either become an MD Surgeon in Neurology or I might choose MDV in Veterinary Medicine. Either way, I will eventually be applying to Med School or Veterinary Med School. Which of the above Majors is better suited and weighted more heavily for acceptance? #psychology #medicine #biology #pre-med #mathematics #physician #physics #surgery

Linda Ann’s Answer

A mathematics curriculum generally does not include the coursework required for a pre-medical student, i.e., biology, chemistry (inorganic and organic), physics and the behavioral sciences. I suggest that you review the domains on the Medical College Admissions Test. All major universities have a "premed" major and usually an advisor for premedical students. Premed students generally major in biology, chemistry, biochemistry in preparation for getting into medical school.

Allen’s Answer

Given how difficult DVM and MD are it's a great idea to use your undergrad major as a backup career. Major in what you are interested in but also consider alternate jobs. Medical physics and biomedical engineering undergraduate majors would have amazing crossover opportunities so that you could do jobs that ordinary MDs with general majors couldn't. And you have options if you decide not to do medicine. There is tremendous demand in the STEM fields if you find out the job requirements (programming languages and skills). As long as you are spending time and money in college try to get the most out of the experience as possible. The worst thing you can do is to get a liberal arts degree with no backup job prospects in case medicine falls through.
