Pharmaceutical and medical device companies have departments focused on research and development (R&D), quality, and operations.
Medical device companies have departments in R&D, quality, or design. There are devices ranging from prosthetics heavily reliant on biomechanics principles, diagnostic devices focused on electrical engineering, and many others focused on the delivery of treatments in pharmaceuticals.
Also as engineers, you can make finding your critical thinking skills very applicable to other areas. Engineers get involved in finance/banks if they like mathematical problems and coding. In the business world, consultants with analytics skills are heavily recruited.
There are large companies that are household names but also a huge amount of start-up companies that have a different culture. Stay open to all experiences to find the perfect fit. Yoru career is much longer than just your first job.
