Can someone fill me in on what exactly Environmental Engineers do?

I am crazy about environmental sciences, but I'm not sure whether to go towards environmental engineering or environmental sciences. Im not clear as to what exactly does these two majors lead to and what they do specifically. Thank you! #environmental-science #environmental

Thank you comment icon Please give this student the right path I think they need an accessment test to see what they truly like go from here please Mickie

Anne’s Answer

I find environmental SCIENCE and environmental ENGINEERING to be very different. I took one semester of Env Engineering and switched to Earth Science. Eng vs Sci are two ways of looking at the world. Engineering (to me) is more a way to calculate a solution to a problem based on known factors/quantities. Using known formulas you can come up with an answer. Science is more about observing, original thinking and looking at the world in new ways. I'm a little biased because I'm now a scientist. I found Engineering too restrictive.

But everyone one is different, so it depends on how you like to work and how you approach problem solving.

Environmental Science Engineering

Anne recommends the following next steps:

Read college course catalogs and course descriptions to see which you like better. It's hard to do well in college if you are not interested in your studies...
Research scientist jobs and engineering jobs to see which appeals to you more.
