What subjects do you feel are the most imortant when looking to pursue a career in sports marketing or sports management?
The university I am going to attend does not specifically offer a major in Sports Management. I will be majoring in Business Management/Marketing.
I want to take advantage of any courses that you feel are 100% necessary to help me be successful in my career. #business #management #sports

If you are interested in anything the marketing field, I suggest any courses that resemble these:
- Writing
- Editing
- Journalism
- Advertising
- Social or digital
- Design or graphics
- sales
- business strategy
- communications
- and of course, anything in the Marketing genre. Learning as much about different types of marketing will help you regardless of your specialization. As much as you can learn about personalization, customer journey, buying cycles, branding, events, messaging, and programmatic, the better.
Good luck!

Business management is a good degree to have as sport management is just a business degree with a sports focus. And I'm glad you are taking marketing as your concentration. I would recommend taking an sports specific elective if your school has any. Honestly though, I wouldn't focus on classes as much as I would focus on internship opportunities and jobs you can do related to sports. Does your school have a newspaper or a radio station? You should sign up and try to gain experience. Can you work for your Athletic center or recreational center? Then do it! This is important because when employers look at your resume they will see you made an effort to get sport specific experience. Good luck!
