- Research this field and what it would require for education; many jobs require a masters degree.
- Talk to other people in this field to get an understanding of what they do and how they do it.

In NJ you need to get a Masters Degree in Social work and then work under an independently licensed clinician to obtain supervision and pass the licensing exam in order to get your clinical license. You can be licensed and practice under an independently licensed clinician to ensure you get the required number of supervised hours.
