Jacinta’s Answer

Even though I am not a social worker, but I still want to give a perspective from someone who may witness certain behaviours. In addition, I believe some of the traits are transferable no matter which industry you are in.

A. Being professional. This does not mean you need to distance yourself, however, don't take things personally. Sometimes you may be put into a situation where you felt personally attacked or hurt. Take a step back and allow yourself to be disconnected from being personally and emotionally involved.
B. Active listening skills. This skill is crucial in all aspects of our lives. Think about if you are a C-suite leader or a doctor, you would always want your business partner or patient felt heard.
C. Manage expectation. Since you will or are working with people directly all the time, it is important to communicate through what should the other person expect and what is their expectation so there is no surprises to the end result. Just making sure people are always on the same page and you don't lose anyone is important.

Hope that helps.

Cindy’s Answer

My strengths as a social worker are that I am patient, caring, realistic, and believe systematically in the whole person as they exist in their environment. I also know how to network within the community service realm because it definitely takes the whole village to serve the village.
