After trying all you can do and not getting the desired job in you career field what do you do?

I don't want to put all of my eggs in one basket, but I also don't want to give up. My career field is competitive and I don't know if its reachable. I don't want to give up but I also need advise. Everyone seems to think I'm over my head and shooting way beyond the stars but I don't have a backup and I really want to reach for this one dream. #acting #film #theatre #actor

That's really up to you! You will need to support yourself one way or another, but that doesn't mean that you have to give up on your dream- plenty of people focus the bulk of their energy on their chosen career path while doing (related or unrelated) work to pay the bills. If you want to be a film actor, there's lots of things you can do to keep you in the field that aren't just "being a movie star" but still move you in the same direction. Definitely chat with others in the field about their unique stories- I'm sure they'll have lots of great advice to share!

I'm a trained musician but I knew early on that I didn't want to make it my full-time career- but I still work on plenty of music projects. I've found the balance that works for me, and you'll find yours!

I would recommend setting up a regular date in your calendar to "re-evaluate". Maybe every six months to a year, sit down and think about whether you want to continue focusing your energy on your chosen path or you want to pivot in a new direction. That way, if you're happy- you can confirm that with yourself and keep on keeping on. If not, you can make some decisions and choose a new direction.

Don't let anyone tell you what you can or can't do! If that is your dream, then plan and figure out what you need to accomplish to get there. You are boundless and can do anything you put your mind to! Anything worth while will take a lot of work and perseverance, nothing good ever comes easy!
Any goal is reachable, but first be honest with yourself. I'm sure that if you retrace your steps, you will find something that you could have done better. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.
There are many roads that can get you where you want to go, and sometimes you may need to make a couple of stops before your destination, planning will get you there.
Good luck!

The one thing I learned early on in theatre -- the more you know how to do, and are willing to try, the more you will work. My first love is working as an actor in theatre, but I have worked as a Stage Manager, a Director, a Producer, a Writer, a Costumer, Make-up Person, etc. etc. Small theatre need people willing to be Theatre Artists, and not just actors. 90% of the time, being a film extra is not really and truly acting -- but it can pay more than a week performing in a small professional theatre.

I was able to apply my training and career as a Stage Manager to being an Office Manager and eventually a Human Resources person.

You will never regret trying to succeed at something you love. But you will regret never giving yourself the chance.

Even though the job market can be tough, don’t give up on your dreams! Think about your end goal, but also think about the different paths you can take to get there. What does that path look like? Think about the skills that are needed to get into that career field. Do you need strengths in communications, sales, customer service, etc.? If you can’t land a job in that particular career field at the moment, find positions that will allow you to strength those skills. That way you are building up your strengths for when a position might open up. Good luck!

I'd suggest paying attention to the market, especially if you're excited by the arts and entertainment industry. The websites for movies are IMDBPro, Deadline, Studio 32, Variety, and of course Twitter and Facebook.
