Firstly, you need to ensure that you have set your goals. What you've chosen is a great thing, however you need to ensure once you decide that this is what you want to do, then you shouldn't step back. Singing relaxes the mind and also gets the others surrounded by us to experience a great relief. Start by singing your favourite songs, if you have a mobile phone, you can record your own voice without a music and find out how you sound. In case you have a smart phone, you may download new apps which allows you to sing for Karaoke and post it so that you can analyze yourself. Sing as a passion and let your emotions flow like a water. Start going for singing classes and pursue your goal. If you cannot afford or do not have time to go to classes, you have internet available at a cheaper rate these days and YouTube is always there to help you. You have enormous tutorials and online classes available. Learn as much as you can and I sincerely wish you all the very best.

Nir’s Answer

To be a good singer you need a few important qualities. You need to have good pitch, you need to have a nice tone, and you need to have good vocal endurance. I am a singer songwriter but I find that if I play a one hour live show my voice is in shambled by the last song and that's because I haven't had all the proper training. So most important is to get a good vocal coach. To get good pitch it can be very helpful to learn another instrument and to work in choirs where you can work on harmonies.

Tracy’s Answer

Hello,
If you have a deep love of music and singing, and believe that a career singing is what you want your life to be than you will want to immerse yourself in learning about music and singing.
Find a voice teacher, classically trained (you must train classically regardless of what kind of music you want to sing), whose voice you like and who has students that love them. Take lessons weekly and practice daily. Take a music theory class and learn, also, to play an instrument (best to choose piano or guitar to accompany your voice). Listen to singers you like. Do not try to imitate them, but try to understand what it is about their singing that appeals to you.
Develop your voice with honesty - don't try to fake your sound, but learn to sing with good technique.
Also expand you mind and experiences - read about the world, go to museums, discovery history at your library in their research rooms.
To be a true artist you must have an expanded awareness of the world and the arts.
If you are interested in opera, you can choose to attend a University that has a Vocal Performance Degree.

Best of Luck!
