Hello Jessica,
Answer:
No, a dietitian is not called a doctor. While both dietitians and doctors work in the field of healthcare, they have different roles and educational backgrounds.
A dietitian, also known as a registered dietitian (RD) or a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN), is a healthcare professional who specializes in food and nutrition. Dietitians are experts in assessing, diagnosing, and treating nutritional problems. They provide personalized advice and guidance on healthy eating, meal planning, and dietary modifications for individuals with various health conditions.
To become a dietitian, one must complete a bachelor’s degree in nutrition or a related field accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). After completing the undergraduate degree, aspiring dietitians must complete an accredited supervised practice program, which includes hands-on experience in various healthcare settings. Following the supervised practice program, individuals must pass a national registration examination to become a registered dietitian.
On the other hand, a doctor is a medical professional who diagnoses, treats, and manages diseases and injuries. Doctors have completed medical school, which typically involves four years of undergraduate education followed by four years of medical school. After completing medical school, doctors undergo residency training in their chosen specialty, which can range from three to seven years depending on the specialty. Once residency training is completed, doctors may pursue further specialization through fellowships.
Doctors have the authority to prescribe medications, perform medical procedures, and provide comprehensive medical care to patients. They have extensive knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and pharmacology. While doctors may provide general dietary advice as part of their patient care, their primary focus is on diagnosing and treating medical conditions.
In summary, while both dietitians and doctors work in healthcare settings and play crucial roles in promoting health and well-being, they have different educational backgrounds and areas of expertise. A dietitian specializes in food and nutrition, while a doctor specializes in medical diagnosis and treatment.

No, a dietitian is not a doctor as they did not go to medical school. A small number, about 4%, of dietitians have doctoral degrees so their title would be "doctor". See more here: https://dietitiandirection.com/are-dietitians-doctors/

Like Gizem says, registered dietitians are not medical doctors. They are very valuable parts of the medical care team, but they do not go to medical school.

Hi Jessica,
Normally dietitians have at least a bachelor's degree. If the dietitian have not received any doctoral level degrees such as a PhD (i.e. Doctor of Philosophy) or a professional doctorate degree, then they don't have the "doctor" title.
