Carolyn’s Answer

Being a Neuromuscular Massage Therapist is very rewarding as well as physically demanding. Being present (its about them and not my issues) challenging (meeting their needs and helping their issue, giving advice that will help them) rewarding (they received a release from their issue and feel much better, they rebook and want a regular time slot). Over my 26 year career, I have run the entire business, processed insurance billing, replied to all phone calls, emails and texts. Marketing, networking...etc. I now have a clinic with 8 therapists, plus myself and my husband, have a full time office manager who takes care of all but the insurance billing. I feel it is very rewarding and I enjoy going to work everyday.

Patty’s Answer

Jessica,

Being a Massage Therapist is hard work. It is physically and mentally taxing if you let it be. Working with proper body mechanics and being careful not to take on other's energy is important. Massage Therapists are number one on the list for carpal tunnel syndrome. So we have to be careful not to work too much and not to get hurt since they are both very easy to do.

The best advice I can give you is to slowly build up the number of massages you do a day. Otherwise, Massage Therapy can be a very tiring profession. Listen to your body and pace yourself.

Good Luck,

Patty Born, BSN, RN, LMT
