I would recommend the following advice for becoming a Physical Therapist:

I. You would be working with all kinds of patients to help them gain mobility in hospitals, clinics or assisted living centers
II. Volunteer at a hospital or assisted living center or shadow with a Physical Therapist
III. Take challenging science courses in high school to include Honors or AP science courses
IV. Apply to colleges and universities with strong science programs
V. Earn a Bachelor's Degree in a Health-Related Field
VI. Complete a Doctor of Physical Therapy Degree Program which typically takes 3 years
VII. Meet your State's Licensing Requirements
VIII. Complete a Residency (Optional)
IX. Obtain Board Certification (Optional)

Take a class in dealing with diversities, racial biases and cultural differences so that you have an understanding and respect for all people of all ages.

Jason’s Answer

Keep in mind I am not a physical therapist but as someone who has had 3 surgeries in the last 3 years I like to think of myself as a professional patient surgeries required me to have PT. I will tell you that making your patient feel like they are connecting with you is very important. Ive had any situations where I go in to do my work and I felt abandoned to sit with ice or heat with an assistant.
I would strongly assess the patient's desires for what they want to work on, and their value of time. I really liked my last physical therapist and he was right out of school. The reason was that he spent all his time with me. I was not just another person in a place that looked like a gym. That was helpful for me to become invested in the process.
