what are majors to look into when trying to become a wedding planner?
I am a 12th grader. I really want to help people make their big days as amazing and memorable. I would prefer to work for an event planing service that of course hires wedding planners.

Hello! Here are a few degree programs that you could consider to help you build a skill set that's important for any kind of event management (not limited to wedding planning).
Business Administration - Running an event requires logistical and operational skills, which is why studying business administration is so valuable any event planner. This can help you learn how to manage a team, handle logistical challenges of event planning, and could even help you start you own event business! Again, it's a solid choice in many many career options if event planning does not work out.
Hospitality - This degree will open doors for all kind of event planning for you. It will also open doors for a number of careers in the hotel and restaurant management field. Also, getting a degree in hospitality will help you learn about how to care for event guests.
Marketing - This major will give you a good background in advertising and help you learn foundations of business. Additionally, studying marketing will help you better understand what’s involved in promoting any kind of event.
Public Relations - PR and marketing can be seen as similar fields, however marketing is more on how to sell a product, where PR is the process of improving a brand’s reputation. PR is a growing industry, especially with the rise of social media. This way, even if an event planner career doesn’t workout, there are still many opportunities you could take with this knowledge and education.
Communications - This degree can help you understand how guests are going to engage with any event, and will also help with communication tactics for gaining a client, dealing with vendors, etc.

A lot of colleges have hospitality and event planning majors. I would suggest looking at those schools and determining which ones you like the best and going for it.
I'd also recommend finding part time work and summer work for event planning companies and catering companies. You will learn a ton from working at that level - you will get to see first hand what happens when things don't go according to plan, how to improvise and how to work with customers/clients when the stakes are relatively low. This will help you immeasurably as you progress in your career.
Good luck!
