What are those unheard law specializations?
Everyone knows of the injury and insurance lawyer, the real estate lawyers, and defense attorneys. However, what are those lawyers that we barely hear of, but are still have an interesting role. I know there are dozens of specializations in law, but what are some of the unheard ones. Would like to see a nice broad range and get a good idea of the different specializations there are. #law #lawyer #attorney

Hi Kenny: WOW this is a huge topic! As a lawyer you can specialize in ANYTHING that interest you. I know a guy who has a pilot's license and specializes in airline cases - as well as regular cases to pay the bills. There are JAG lawyers who specialize in Military Law. There are lawyers who specialize in administrative cases in certain administrative boards. There are sportscasters who are lawyers. Some ex-sports guys become sports agent lawyers! Kenny, best advice I can give you - follow your own heart. Do and study what you like. When, and if, you become a lawyer you can follow that passion!
Awesome answer! It's helpful to have some knowledge about the subject! As a retired police officer, I freelanced for criminal defense/civil rights lawyers, and provided a perspective they otherwise didn't have.

There is a very broad and diverse spectrum that is difficult to list. For instance, there are criminal lawyers, family lawyers, corporate lawyers, technology lawyers etc. As a student, I would recommend you expose yourself to as many areas as possible while in school and also when seeking internships. Internships will allow you the opportunity to get a real flavor of the actual work. All the best!

One relatively new specialty is privacy law - which is what I practice. This area deals laws and regulations around how individual's data is collected, used and shared. Think of the way you use sites on the internet and what data you share with them. Attorneys are working to put contracts in place, security controls and ways to protect your data, or allow the companies to use that data properly. It's an interesting and growing area of the law.
