Is it hard finding work in the fashion industry?

I am thinking about majoring in fashion merchandise in college. However, I am not sure if I'll make enough money after I graduate. #college #money #fashion #careerpath #fashion-and-style

Sneha’s Answer

Yes you can make a lot of money in the fashion industry. Go work for peanuts at one of the fashion houses and learn how business is run. Then apply what you have learnt in school to what you have learned at the job and keep making bigger moves and build on it.

Firstly there's nothing called difficult. It's just a little absence of determination. Everything could be achieved when one is willing to work with passion and determination and with the fashion industry, it's one of the best industries so far with thousands of opportunities. Not if you’re passionate about your work and can be prepared to take up any job in fashion. If you aren’t finding you’re preferred job, you eventually will get there. My suggestion doesn’t restrict to a single job profile, be versatile, learn as much possible and adapt to everything. Breaking into the fashion industry can seem daunting, especially since it's still a world where nepotism largely rules (unfortunately). But it's still possible to succeed even if your parents don't own a major fashion house or small country. The trick is to make your connections. Make a list of the people and companies you admire within the industry. Do diligent research, make sure your resume is up to date, and start reaching out to a few key people for informational interviews (not to ask for jobs, just to learn more about their career!). Reach out via email or LinkedIn (or a social media platform if appropriate), tell them you admire their work, and politely ask for 15 minutes of their time over a quick coffee to discuss their career path and how they got to where they are. Most people are happy to help (any excuse to talk about themselves is always good). You never know what you'll learn or what opportunities these quick coffees can lead to, the fashion industry is a very small place!
