I think you are asking about "staging" a home to make it ready for a listing. If so, then you would need expressed written permission from the Seller (assuming you are a Realtor in that state) in order to stage that home. It's all about de-cluttering the home, removing extra pictures and other knickknacks that detract from a showing experience. Advising where to re-paint, re-carpet or make general improvements as a suggestion only.

Have fun staging the home!

Hello Keon, I believe you also have the option of becoming an Interior Designer as well if you find yourself having a good time decorating indoor spaces.

Do you mean design houses like the foundations, wall, etc.? If so that you'll need a degree with enough Architecture hours and local licensing https://btr.az.gov/blog-terms/architects.

If you meant design what goes into a home as in furniture and fixtures etc. then there are no licensing requirements in AZ.

To be a realtor requires different licensing and but doesn't preclude from doing 'design' if you meet those licensing requirements.

Hi Keon,

That game sounds pretty awesome. I would suggest taking a closer look at the game and determine what skills you are using. Research how those skills can translate to the real world jobs below.

Staging - partners with real estate agents to help clients who are selling their home and "stage" the house for photos or walk throughs. Typically will show up onsite to design and will source from furniture and resources that they already have or rent.

Interior Designer - works with clients to propose furnishings. Some interior designers partner with contractors to make structural changes. Interior designers will source new or custom interior options for clients - anything from furniture, fabrics, counters etc. Interior designers will have a deep understanding of color, space, lighting, material and flow.

Virtual Interior Designer - works with virtual clients and typically lower touch. These designers will source through links, create mood boards or renderings of rooms (CAAD / Sketch Up) and send them to virtual clients. Heavenly, Spacejoy, RoomLift and Modsy are a few virtual interior design companies to check out.

Architect - designs the structure and room layout of the home. Is responsible for the structure of the home both interior and exterior. An architect will focus on shape, materials, position and lighting (natural and electric). An architect has to ensure that a building is structurally sound. They will partner with contractors to execute their designs and consult interior designers for aesthetic choices.

Finally, I would suggest saving your favorite designs (even a screen shot will do) so that you can start to build a portfolio. Once you have an archive of your designs you can start to identify trends in your personal aesthetic that will help you articulate your personal style and areas of interest. This can also help you determine which area of the interior home design business you are most interested in. I hope this helps!
