You could try looking at social work. There are a lot of needs that non-profit workers often have to cover at their work places from media, writing newsletters, and website design. You could look into non-profits related to interior design, maybe Habitat for Humanity?

Hi Surayyah,

It me helpful for you to take an interest assessment to see careers that correlate with your interests. ONET has a free assessment and you can further use the site to research careers.

I also think it would be worthwhile for you to check out the non-profit industry. In the non-profit world you often have the opportunity to utilize multiple skills because of the broad needs of the organization. The interests you mentioned in your question would align themselves beautifully in a non-profit.

Best,
Reva

Thank you comment icon Thank you for the response, Reva! I'll check out ONET. :) Surayyah

Great question! After graduation, we're often left with so many options but NO idea which path to take.

As an often overlooked starting point: I recommend sales. Tech sales specifically!

If you like working with people, but are also interested in technology, and the technology that helps businesses scale and perform at a high level, tech sales might be a good starting point for you.

Perks of starting your career in tech sales:

1. You DON'T NEED EXPERIENCE: Most companies accept SDR and BDR roles (Sales Development Rep and Business Development Rep) with little to no experience required.

2. You get PAID quite WELL! When combining base pay with commission, tech sales jobs actually pay VERY well for entry-level positions. Consider using Glassdoor or other salary-comparison websites to make sure the company you're applying to pays market price for these services.

3. You LEARN a lot about different kinds of BUSINESSES: Many tech companies sell to Businesses, as opposed to end consumers. As a result, you get to work with hundreds of different businesses. This exposure allows you to see a variety of different business-types, and expand your horizons. Often, tech sales reps end up working for one of their ex-customers!

4. Learn TANGIBLE SKILLS in the use of TECHNOLOGY: Any company you apply to wants to see that you know how to use basic business software. Be it Salesforce, Excel, SAP, etc, any knowledge you can bring to the table is one less thing they have to train you. In tech companies, you're guaranteed to work with tons of these technologies, as tech companies tend to adopt as many workflow tools as they can to compete against their rivals. This knowledge will do wonders in your future job searches!

Hope this is helpful. Good luck!
