Go to college and study interior design or construction science. You don't need a college degree to get into the field but it definitely will help distinguish you from others in the field. To get into homebuilding I would recommend putting on a suite and literally walk in to your local homebuilders with your resume and cold call them for a job. I know it sounds weird but in todays world doing that shows an employer how dedicated and determined you are instead of just mass emailing your resume out.

Hello, for home building I suggest you work for a home builder. Develop skills in estimating, supplier relationships, onsite management (superintendent / construction manager). There are also school programs you can get education on. Another valuable skill is being handy with tools - get involved, do a little framing, plumbing, HVAC, siding etc. It is important to have knowledge in all those areas. What really helped me was building my own basement from start to finish or just volunteer to work with a framer and other trades. Best of luck.

You need to be an architect to design buildings and an interior designer to design how a building is furnished.
