Are professional head shots still very necessary, or could you take a selfie?
I feel that a nice selfie can be taken and show off your face just as well as a good selfie would. #actress #acting

Your headshot is the FIRST thing a casting director or director will see if you. A selfie won’t cut it for many reasons, but primary is professionalism. If you’re taking a selfie for a headshot, that tells me that this opportunity is not any more important than an Instagram post.
Have a friend take the photo as suggested. But a better option, if you don’t have a budget for it, is to find an amateur photographer friend or family memeber and offer to have your headshots taken with a DSLR camera. You get some good looking photos and they get something for their portfolio.
If you’re going the DIY route, use natural light on a cloudy day. It’s amazing what excellent lighting can do.
Enjoy getting some great shots!

No, not a "selfie". But you can use a photo from an iPhone taken with the proper background and lighting. You don't have to pay a pro photographer lots of money. You might hear that all the time, but it's not true. I've booked dozens of roles with headshots taken by friends. Capturing who you really are-no photoshop, no excessive makeup, no goofiness or "mugging"-is key. headshots
