Gordon’s Answer

Any building, bridges, skyscrapers, roads, airports, shipping ports. Check your current state and college for any requirements AFTER you graduate, such as a PE requirement. Sometime, oil fields, notice these are mostly outdoor jobs or some in foreign countries (depends on the country or firm you are working for, UK, USA, Russia, China etc)

Thomas:

David Weber briefly describes the three main career paths that a Civil Engineer can normally take. I would add that employment with State/Federal Departments can offer some very rewarding additional job opportunities. Among them are field data gathering and report preparation of air and water related data. There are also opportunities to study and compile information and reports on challenging environmental problems facing the Nation.

Ideally you should work for a licensed Civil Engineer(s). You will need one or more of them as a Reference when you apply for the all-important Professional Engineer (PE) License after 4 years of professional work.

DAVID’s Answer

  1. good place to start out at a engineering consulting firm, work your way up the ladder from engineer to senior engineer to project manager, get real design experience, learn under experienced professional engineers

  2. state and federal positions in regulatory review agencies, EPA, department environmental protection, but no project design experience mostly inspections and permit reviews

  3. city and counties in engineering public works departments

remember your number one goal is to immediately get your EIT and then work the required 4 years to take your PE test and get your PE
