Abigale, your question is very broad. I am guessing this is related to the medical field. Much will depend on the employer's policies. Do they require individuals to work overtime, and if so, in what instances might it be required? (We are in the middle of a pandemic, it would not be unreasonable for employers in the medical field, particularly those in hospital settings to ask and expect that individuals would work overtime.) Is overtime voluntary? If not, and you choose not to perform the overtime, what are the consequences. Is there a bargaining unit (union) involved, if so, what does the contract state regarding overtime. Some employers may not do overtime. Their work duties may be such that overtime is not necessary.

When performing a job search, this would be a good question to ask potential employers so that you are aware of the policy before accepting a position.

Good luck.
