Dhanesh’s Answer

Jobs for chemical engineering graduates will be available in mineral-based industries, petrochemical plants, synthetic fibre units and even in petroleum refining plants. You can find employment opportunities with chemical industries, refineries, manufacturers of acids, medicines, varnishes, paints, fertilisers, etc.

Public sector organisations and private companies dealing in pharmaceuticals, synthetic fibres, textiles, plastics, explosives, etc. also recruit chemical engineers.

You can even join research organisations and laboratories as technical experts on engineering projects.

Chemical engineers are required in defence establishments and atomic power plants. They can work as consultants as well.

Marilyn’s Answer

This is a tough question at this time in the oil and gas area where there are so many layoffs, but I always believe that there are positions for individuals who excel in their studies and have enthusiasm about their field. As you progress in your coursework, you will be able to see the variety of positions available, and because the employment changes from year to year, things may be looking up by the time you graduate even in the area of oil and gas. Do what you love and your future will open up for you. And be flexible...learn management and business skills and keep networking.

Estelle’s Answer

The easy answer is , there are jobs everywhere. But mostly in the chemical industry and petrochemical industry. I live in Houston and both are huge here with miles and miles of chemical plants who hire chemical engineers. Do yourself a favor and try to find internships each summer so you can gain experience and exposure to the different areas of chemical engineering. Remember often people change different specialties in chemical engineering as companies change and the things they make change. You also may want to look outside the US for a job or internship which would be super exciting.
