Deanna’s Answer

You are very well rounded with your career interest and hobbies. You can focus on a career in science which might include Medicine, Research, Pharmaceuticals, Biomedical Engineering, or Teaching. Science allows you to explore many different paths. I would speak with the Science teachers at your school and ask them what path they took. Do you have a science club at your school? There are many summer programs that support young people in STEM, your guidance counselor would be a great place to start. You had mentioned that one of your hobbies is music. Music Therapy might be a great combination of both your passions. Best of luck.

I'd recommend looking into a career as a military officer. The Navy in particular has numerous scientific career fields that will offer paid certifications. There is an incredible amount of history within the military services. Politics aren't really involved until you reach higher ranks.

Brian’s Answer

You are ahead of your age by knowing your passion/interest.

My advice would be that if you are passionate about science - then your next step should be identifying which area in science you like most?

Chemistry? Neurology? Physics?

It's ok if you don't know which one yet! This is the time for you to figure that out.

If you are confident that science is the are you want to major in then I would start looking at colleges with good science programs now. You will want to get a 4 year degree (maybe more) if you are going to major in specific area.

Your options are endless and the sky is the limit!! I would start by researching colleges or universities that offer degrees in these fields; start with the 101 classes in science, political science, and history. Talk to the professors about career pathing in these areas; narrow in on WHY you love these subjects and how they are similar vs. different -- are there similarities that drive you towards these subject areas? Or is it the love for learning? As another contributor mentions, there is a lot of focus for STEM programs -- especially for females as they are typically under represented. You have a good base today, start digging in on that and growing on that. Based on my experience, having a plan is the important part - it's OK if it changes and morphs as you learn and grow.

Good Luck!

Morgan, Please try to identify what stream of science is your favorite or like more than other stream. For example, if you like biology then you can get into health care. You can study medicine if your grades and other activities supports your candidacy. This is a long program and if you are looking to complete graduation early then you can focus on Pharmacy, Bio Medical, Pathology, Nursing etc. If you like physics or chemistry then your choices going to be changed. Please let me know if you have follow up questions.

Charles’s Answer

It sounds like you have some good options open to you. You might find that Public Health is a field that has reasonable demand and makes good use of your interests and presumably your talents. No matter what you want, the best thing you can do right now is to find internships or volunteer positions in work you might enjoy. This is a good way to decide if you actually see yourself in a career in that field or if you aren't really enjoying it... far better than classes will. At the same time, you should look into what level.of education is required to get a respected position in that field, and decide if it's going to be worth the work.

Charles recommends the following next steps:

Look into the educational requirements for interesting careers
Intern (ideally with a stipend) or volunteer in those fields to gain experience and decide if it is a good fit
Look into organizations like Americorps and professional societies that can help direct you to early opportunities in a field.
