Aside from starting my undergraduate studies, what additional steps should I be taking to prepare for a career in architecture?

I'm about to graduate from high school, and there was so much information in preparing for college that I would have liked to understand much sooner than I did. With this frustrating experience, I hope to be better prepared in order to make better decisions sooner. #architect

Call into 3-5 local architect firms, ask for HR person, and ask if they need interns for the summer/Christmas break.; follow up with an email --asking if they would consider you for an internship--3xs!! (The reason, I say 3xs is--the first time; everyone ignores the call/email; 2nd time-- put "2nd contact attempt" in subject line, which means you are serious about really working for this architect firm and by the 3rd email/call--I promise you will get a response. Do this all 4 years of your college and most firms will apply this experience as "work" experience and see you as a go-getter. Good luck! -- Rosalee
