Julio’s Answer

First of all realize that it is a business and requires self-motivation, statistical math skills, people-skills, management, computer database skills and usually based on commission, (no salary!). Most states have a licensing requirement and trade schools to prepare for exam, not the how-to. I have been in the business 25 years and find that the best prepared agents are the ones with strong well rounded education in economics, basic math, basic'psychology, and business management.... Sounds like a business school? Well it is, your choice in Real estate is a business and you will be mostly self-employed. Here is some good news, some colleges offer in their business department, a major in real estate, with internships during the summer breaks, that is the best way to get into real estate, because it gives you so much more rounded education, not just the license. But remember, its NOT like the TV shows, that is un-realistic, not reality.

Julio recommends the following next steps:

Business school with real estate
No college money, then local online real estate prep
Take state exam, get license
Find small office with actual Broker that trains and supports you
Get some business classes if not option 1

Rhonda’s Answer

I was interested in a career in real estate as well. I wanted a more flexible schedule than a 9-5 offered. While I was laid off due to downsizing, I obtained my real estate license. I took classroom training through a national real estate company, passed the licensing exam, and became an agent.
