Ryan’s Answer

Peer reviews and manager reviews are really important to climbing the career ladder. Applying internally in your company. Networking is really important. Make the right connections with people in your department. If there's an internship or job opportunity that may help you get the job you want, you should participate in that. Participate in a rotational program. Look out for career programs that offer hands on experience in the field you enjoy.

Matt’s Answer

When first start a job, you are typically in an entry-level position. The easy answer is that if you work hard, are a reliable employee, and exhibit the skills for the next level, you would be promoted. It is more complicated than that, however, as you need to understand what it takes to be promoted to the next level (your manager should be able to discuss that with you) and you may need to work to acquire skills needed to be promoted to name a few.

Another way people get a promotion is to change companies or departments within a company.
