Hi Ronldo!

Every police officer starts out as a Rookie, but, not every officer becomes "The best." Honestly, it is hard to define "best" when it comes to law enforcement. You can be the best that YOU can be, but that doesn't necessarily make you the best officer.

Law Enforcement is teamwork. Each person has different personal strengths and weaknesses, and areas of expertise. So, while other officers would call on me for help in dealing with somebody who was mentally ill, or, for help in writing complex reports, I would go to them for things like traffic accident investigation.

Things that help to make a person the "best" officer include: staying current in knowledge of the laws, physical conditioning, taking on increasing responsibilities, helping other officers, being a good role model, etc. Usually by the time you've been an officer for two years, you should consider trying to become a Field Training Officer (FTO). When a police officer fist graduates from the academy, they are assigned to an FTO who helps them in transitioning to working on patrol, and also is responsible for doing evaluations of that officer. FTO is often the first step towards other positions, including instructor, detective, sergeant, specialty units (K9, etc).

Good luck!
Kim

There's a very famous quote- " A journey of a thousand miles start with a single step".

So for a person who is the best was a rookie one day, so the start is very much necessary and it will lead to making you the best, so yes we start from being a rookie to being the best.

All the best!
